TV Ownership Down in America, Nielsen Says | The Wrap TV

Kill your television? A growing number of Americans are choosing to do just that, according to the Nielsen Company.

Nielsen announced on Tuesday that TV ownership in the U.S. is down for the first time in 20 years, based on data gathered from the 2010 census.

According to Nielsen, the percentage of households with televisions has declined to 96.7, compared with the 98.9 percent from previous estimates in 2000.

We could wish it were a sign of Christians opting out of the greatest influence for worldly mindset, but given the state of the churches, not likely to happen.

A prayer for when you are down-sizing

Lord, I really don't what to move. I like it here - there are so many memories. I am comfortable here because it is familiar. I know it is to large for me (us) now, to much work, but I have such mixed feelings. I don't like the thought of all the changes.

I am so glad you never change. You are and always will be a constant in my life. Help me to remember that when I am packing and unpacking. Amen.

Phil Campbells coming to aid namesake city | The Franklin County Times

In the wake of the deadly tornado that tore through the small Franklin County town, many thought the annual Phil Campbell Hoedown Festival and the coinciding International Phil Campbell Convention 2011 scheduled for June 17 and 18 would have to be cancelled, but organizer Rita Barton said that’s not the case.

“People’s spirits are down right now and they need this hoedown to lift them up and to bring some sunshine back into Phil Campbell,” Barton said.

Can we be the church of the New Testament? Yes, if we hold fast the NT pattern of sound words

Continual shelling during the First World War reduced the countryside in West Flanders, Belgium to a sea of mud. More than a million men died.

The beautiful Weaver’s Guild-Hall at Ieper, built in the 12th century, was reduced to rubble. After the war, the British wanted to leave the whole city of Ieper in ruins as a memorial to the war! Understandably, the people of Ieper thought otherwise! Some wanted to replace the Guild Hall with a modern structure. But city architect Jules Coomans insisted that the Weaver’s Hall be rebuilt.

And with the help of fellow architect, P.A. Pauwels, the building was restored to its original grandeur. When the restoration was complete in 1959, the building looked exactly as it did before. This was possible because they used the original building plans and the same type of stones.

Jesus built His church in the first century (Matthew 16:18). Two millennia later the world is full of denominations that are very different from the church Jesus built. People have used their own plans and their own stones to establish thousands of denominations according to their own liking and for their own glory.

Churches of Christ exist in all parts of the world because certain people want to be nothing more and nothing less than the church of the New Testament. They must endure much criticism, however, from those who call this an impossible dream, an unattainable objective, an impracticable ideal.

Can we be the church of the New Testament? Why not, if we use the original building plans and the same stones, if we follow the pattern of the New Testament?

The perfect description of religious liberal-progressives

experts at using the supposed depravity of others as a device to advertise their own great righteousness.

Never mind the source of the quote, it fits our pompous progressives to a T, who love to feign false humility while they dump on those who busy themselves with the will of God and render obedience to those wonderful commandments which do not, as the NET Bible renders it, "weigh us down."

I-40 detour leaves small-town McD's short-staffed

With just four workers on duty, the McDonald's on Highway 64 in Bald Knob was short-staffed Wednesday night.

It probably couldn't have happened at a worse time.

Flooding on the White River that night necessitated the indefinite closing of westbound Interstate 40 and the implementation of a roundabout, 120-mile detour

Might the manager have been short-sighted, when he should have expected the increased traffic from the I-40 closing? Or tight-fisted? Or just didn't have enough employees to call in to deal with it? Hmm ... Whatever the situation, it' certainly boosting Bald Knob's economy.
