Beliefs of the Park Plaza church of Christ

Our quest is not to restore the church of the first century. Rather, our goal is to pursue the Jesus they pursued.

This sounds different than the preaching of the pattern of the New Testament that we've put forward for so many years. Is this one more church moving off the old paths?

Yep. If you're not restoring the N.T. church, then what are you doing? Building another one? Reforming one already in existence?
I can't speak in defense of someone I don't know, but please let's not cast a disparaging light on a church that has simply said something in different words than we expect. Perhaps they came to need this statement because some members of their congregation were worshiping the "restorers" or the institution of the church or the process of restoration instead of worshiping God. Sometimes "what we've put forward for so many years" is more of a hindrance than a help. (Again, I am not defending the Park Plaza congregation; I don't know them. I am just disliking the implication that they are in doctrinal error solely because they are not using what we consider orthodox language.)
I went to their website. It looks very much like the one we just updated to at our site.
They had a contact us button, so I did, asking them about that statement and how pursuing or following Christ can not be construed as building the 1st century church by default.
I'll let you know what they say.

In Him,
Mike
