Heavy lifting

Time to do some major stuff today. Sunday, three meetings, no time. (Guest speaking at Jardim Esplanada in the morning.) Saturday, one meeting in the afternoon, in Taubaté. Lots to prepare for.

Have got a number of things done this morning. The Missus and I split a plate of chicken stroganoff for lunch up at Roberto's. She's off on errands, I'm buckling down to do lessons and bulletin/order of worship.

I just read about a WV town with nothing electronic. They're in some sort of kill zone for a space telescope. A number of people have moved there, who have electronic hypersensitivity. Bad syndrome for today.

Solid night of sleep

Few things can't be solved by a solid night's sleep. I worked from home yesterday — 'twas a state holiday and the cleaning lady swiped down the office — and took a nap on the couch for a bit. I woke up with a pinched or dislocated nerve in my arm. It bothered me a bit for the rest of the day. I didn't take any meds — that's a no-no in my book — but I figured a night's rest would take care of it. And it did.

Two tires on the car are very worn. One is down to the metal, we noticed last night. When we bought the car, it had tires a bit larger than the original specs. Now, price demands we go back to the original size. So that means we'll have to buy four right now, if they can be found on the market. Ouch!

This right before we'll have to leave money to pay two months' worth of bills, before our trip to the US in mid-August.

Another short devotional today on my personal blog, "The Lord gives knowledge." It starts: "Who am I to judge anything? Who are you as well to emit opinions about what others do?" Isn't that what the world loves to say?

On Wed., nights, right before our small group study at the house, I'm doing premarital counseling with Wash. (who was baptized earlier this year). His fiancee is in another state, and she sought out someone there for the same. Doing it with just one of them isn't ideal, but it's far better than nothing.

Prayers, please, for The Maiden with what looks like a good job opportunity.

Way past time to get out a GoSpeak newsletter. Way time.

Brazil DST back again Sat., personal notes

These thoughts shooting across the grey matter, jotted down before they dissipate in the night air.

• The Maiden took off for the weekend to stay with a Christian couple we're close to. She'll be back Sunday with them.

• That popular movie service has come our way, and The Maiden figured up it would be cheaper signing up for it than renting DVDs as we've done until now. So we're doing the month's free trial. I've yet to watch anything, but they've watched several. I think Jane Eyre was the first.

• We talked to The Grand Grandbaby and her parents last night. She kept looking behind the monitor for us.

• No Christian meetings of any kind tomorrow (Sat.), for a change. I'll use it to prepare for Bible school lessons. And store up sleep for the hour we'll lose tomorrow night when the time changes. Let's see, we go on DST here, I think it is, to lose an hour.

• Remember the story of the impatient kid who helped the butterfly break out of the chrysalis, only to leave it crippled? We can be like that in sowing the seed of the gospel, too. We want, but want so badly, for people to obey the Word, to take on responsibility in the body of Christ, that we might harm them if we help the process along too much. Overeager to make it happen, we can damage people spiritually. Balance!

NYT: How Little Sleep Can You Get Away With? Not as much as you think you can

But they insisted they had adjusted to their new state. Even 14 days into the study, they said sleepiness was not affecting them. In fact, their performance had tanked. In other words, the sleep-deprived among us are lousy judges of our own sleep needs. We are not nearly as sharp as we think we are.

You just can't do without your sleep and perform well. Even if you think you can.
