What I love about the church

The follow was written for Chris Gallagher’s preacherspen.com site, as part of a series of guest blogs on the subject. Mine was published earlier in the month of August.

In my bedroom is a relic. Not a religious artifact, but a family heirloom of sorts. On a shelf sits a carved turkey caller that my grandfather made years ago with his own hands. It is precious to me not only because it was his, but because he made it, he carved it with his own hands.

My sentiments about that turkey caller echo in a terribly weak way my feelings and convictions about the church of God. I made a list of what I love about the church, but the points are but swirls around the center. I love the church because my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ created it, not merely with his own hands, but with his precious blood.

Two weeks into trip, good things have happened

* The Sherman Drive congregation in Denton TX and the Central church in Chandler OK (see links) have signaled their desire to participate with us in the GoSpeak ministry. We’re grateful for their decisions and pray this association may glorify the Lord.

* The lower portion of Mom’s heart was beating faster the the upper part. She’s been doing tests and seeing doctors ... Full post is HERE.

In Oklahoma; personal weblog down; mom with heart problems

My personal weblog has been down for a few days (testing). I've notified the webmaster, so I hope it will be back up shortly.

We left Texas today after a week of Christian hospitality there, came up I-35 into Oklahoma. Tomorrow we'll meet up with brethren for lunch, and tomorrow morning I'll speak in Chandler.

Since no appointment has panned out for the evening service, we may make our way back to Arkansas Sunday afternoon, so we can get as soon as possible into Paragould. My mom is having heart problems (was carried to ER last weekend), and while some meds seem to be helping, we'd like to pop in there as soon as possible.

The GoSpeak ministry website is up and going, though I still haven't finished my monthly report for August. Soon, soon.

I read this interview with Weylan Deaver, sitting in Weylan's house

3. What are the best lessons you have discovered through the years, as a blogger?

Well, I’ve not been at it for years. But, here is some advice I think worthwhile. Only post what you don’t mind total strangers reading. Only post material you don’t mind winding up in the farthest hinterland. Only post what is true and what you’re willing to defend. Remember, what you say online is forever. Be prepared for criticism.

I had a special pleasure reading this interview, sitting right now in Weylan's house as I read it.
