Motorcycles, Walking Sticks and Old Age

By Charles Box, from one of his lessons:

On a recent visit to Cracker Barrel in Greenville, Alabama I let my wife out at the door to try to make things easier for her. Husbands should honor, help and encourage their wives. Peter wrote, “Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.” (1 Peter 3:7) After I parked the car and was walking in I saw a beautiful blue and white motorcycle. It had a neat side car so I stopped to take a quick look. It was a good-looking bike. We ate at a table beside a couple that was about 10 years older than me, so you know they were old folks. When they finished their meal I watched as they arose to leave. The man took a few seconds to get up and get his balance with his walking stick. The woman arose with greater ease than he but she too used a walking stick. We were beside the window. I watched as they stopped beside the motorcycle. I assumed they were taking a look like I did. Then I saw them placing their walking sticks in the side car and getting on the bike, he on the bike and she in the side car and ridding away. This made me do some thinking about growing old and old age.

The Jewish temple served as a sketch of the heavenly sanctuary because ...

The Jewish temple served as a "sketch and a shadow of the heavenly sanctuary" because Moses was careful to build it according to the design or model God gave him. Hb 8.5 NET

The word "design" refers to "an archetype serving as a model, type, pattern, model” (BGAD). God has always been concerned that his pattern be followed. If he was so concerned that Moses build according to the design he gave, how much more does he desire, yea, demand, that we follow the pattern set forth in the New Testament, to order our practice, worship, and work as Christians and congregations of his people? (compare Hebrews 2.2).

"... I am writing these instructions to you in case I am delayed, to let you know how people ought to conduct themselves in the household of God, because it is the church of the living God, the support and bulwark of the truth" (1Tm 3:14b-15).

She's here: Eden Lynne Matheny

Joel just wrote: "I give you: Eden Lynne Matheny! They are doing great! Eden is 6 lbs 9.5 oz and 18 3/4 in long."

Shortly afterwards, we got to see her stretch and yawn for a bit on skype, she's a doll. Looks just like me. ;-)

Eden was born at Nashville's Baptist Hospital, a bit early (due date was Aug. 20), but still considered full-term, Joel said. Because of Tansy's high blood pressure, it was done by C-section.

John's short letters show a single concern

The apostle John wrote the letters of 1-3 John probably within the same general situation, or occasion, and shows a central concern in all
three, that of preaching, and supporting, the truth and not false doctrine.

Three imperatives (command verbs) in each of the letters seem to capture the emphasis of each one. See those HERE.

Together, the letters emphasize the need, still acute today, for discernment between truth and error and how we should support the (preaching of the) truth and how we should refuse to support error.
